Minor Bug Fixes & Additions

You guys might have noticed some problems with the site from time to time, especially when I was attempting to update PHP. PHP is quite finicky I’ve found, especially the bookoos of libraries required to compile the extensions. I wanted to add HTML Tidy support in PHP along with update to the newest version, 5.1.4. The idiot who programmed HTML Tidy didn’t bother making it compatible with libtool straight out of the box, so I had to make it compatible so I could easily compile it. That was a pain because the server this site is hosted on doesn’t have libtoolize installed, so I had to download the tarball, put it on my Mac, libtoolize it, and then upload it back to the server so I could compile it. I’ll try later on to make a local install of libtool on this server so I can run libtoolize when needed. That’s for another day, though.

Also, Just recently I had a bit of a problem with the Freetype hinting when previously trying to post this entry. I thought I updated gdft.c with FT_LOAD_NO_HINTING, but I didn’t it seems. I have fixed that, and now that works again… *sigh*

I had a problem on this entry where I accidentally closed an acronym element with <acronym> instead of </acronym> which caused the entry to show up funny. I fixed it quickly, but I thought that this sort of stupid thing can be avoided by making it correct itself before going into the database, so that’s what I’ve done with HTML Tidy. I’ve also made it tidy up the XHTML code this site uses so that people wanting to see how I’ve programmed a certain part of this website can more easily read the code. It’s actually good that unknown bugs pop up (except for the headache it causes) because your code ends up improving in the long run.

Still hard at work on the manga. Seung, Jeff, and I have been discussing some more on the next location, but the page is still a while off. I’ve found out that my old hard drive is pretty much a paperweight, so I’m going to have to recreate some of the things that were on there that were useful to DP such as the logo itself. I’m still going to try and get information off the drive, but I doubt I’ll be successful.
